(GPS: 49.61680N, 119.84532W, see photos for more access info.)

In coordination with Radio Amateurs of Canada (www.rac.ca) and the Amateur Radio Relay League (www.arrl.org), PARC members will be setting up and operating multiple stations, in multiple modes and on multiple frequencies, while making contact with other radio amateurs throughout the world! AND, if the flight path of the International Space Station’s happens to grace us with a flyover, or a usable satellite in orbit happens to come overhead, there is the possibility of an off-world relay to make a contact, too! (See www.arris.org for more info.)

“Field Day is ham radio’s open house. Every June, more than 31,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science, skill and service to our communities and our nation(s). It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event. Field Day has been an annual event since 1933, and remains the most popular event in ham radio.” – Amateur Radio Relay League website, www.arrl.org/field-day

Points are awarded for contacting other stations, radio club or individual, and there are multiple other factors that can add to the scoring. For example, a site visit from any dignitary who signs the site log book also generates points for the world-wide standings. A dignitary is defined as someone who is involved at any level of government, or representing any emergency service, department, or Ministry. Could this be you?? If you are unable to attend, could this be your designate or a colleague?? We sure hope so!

There will be at least one special guest star on-site, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen’s Mobile Command Centre, and it will be activated by our on-site operators, so remember to put June 27th & 28th on your calendar!

Whether you stay for 30 minutes, or a few hours, or even longer, your visit is appreciated while we demonstrate a ‘hobby’ better described as a passion, not only for fun, but in service to our communities and each other. Please make sure to sign the visitor logbook. And for those whose curiosity will not be satisfied with just a simple look, there may be opportunities to even get on the air, under the supervision of a licensed operator.

Penticton Amateur Radio Club, callsign VE7PRC, will be on the air on June 27th thru June 28th and waiting for you to join us!

73 de VE7PRC
Link to Story on Castanet

You’re invited!
